Passover: A Time of Freedom and Food

Passover commemorates our freedom from slavery and the birth of the Jewish nation: A healthy, liberating experience for both body and soul!

Our ancient customs at the Seder and the special foods we eat – tell the amazing story of our freedom. And they help us to re-enact those precious moments of liberation, some 3300 years ago.

Marror (bitter herbs) remind us of the harshness and bitterness of slavery. Matzoh, the “poor man’s bread” that we ate as slaves, transforms itself, during the Seder, into the bread of redemption. The four cups of wine are drunk while reclining like kings – a royal beverage celebrating our newly found freedom.

Unfortunately, for impoverished families in Israel, Passover can be a time of stress, hunger and despair. When there’s no food on the holiday table, Passover is no longer a time of freedom. Tragically, it can be transformed into another experience of bondage, depression and despair.

What is Lemaan Achai?

Fortunately, there is an organization called “Lemaan Achai” (it’s meaning in Hebrew: “for the sake of my brethren“). And they certainly live up to their name.

Many people do not know that one out of every four families in Israel lives below the poverty line. And that one of every three kids in Israel suffers from “food deficiency”.

Passover is an especially costly time – buying matzoh, wine and other essential food for the entire seven-day holiday. For impoverished families, this extra burden can be impossible to bear. This is where Lemaan Achai steps in.

Why is Lemaan Achai Successful?

“Lemaan Achai” is a non-profit organization aiding poor families in the city of Bet Shemesh, Israel. What makes Lemaan Achai unique is its successful program to help Israel’s needy families survive and then get OUT of their crisis.

Lemaan Achai helps poor families to get back on their feet, through back-to-work programs, financial management counseling, and over twenty-five innovative and effective social services rehabilitation programs.

The Passover Aid Project

Lemaan Achai’s Passover Aid Project distributes direct aid to over one hundred and eighty impoverished families (over six hundred kids) who are participating in Lemaan Achai’s programs.

Many of the families that were helped last year are not on this year’s Passover “Aid List” – because they were brought back on their feet and no longer need charitable help.

Our Passover Appeal to You

Please support Lemaan Achai’s vital efforts on behalf of these families. We ask you to help provide for their Passover needs. For the sake of our brethren.

Supreme Court orders Migron 'dismantled'

Migron Outpost in Samaria.

The Supreme Court of Israël has rejected a compromise and ordered the Jewish residents of the village of Migron expelled no later than August 1. Knesset members are already organizing to legislatively overturn the court's ruling.

Civil rights group the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel slammed the court.

"The High Court justices could have made a decision to avoid conflict in Israeli society," said Forum director attorney Nachi Eyal. "Clearly the court thinks human rights are only for Palestinians, not for Jews."

"What do you expect from a panel containing a justice who won't sing Hatikva?" Eyal added, in a dig at Supreme Court Justice Salim Joubran, who declined to sing the national anthem at Supreme Court President (emeritus) Dorit Beinisch's retirement ceremony.

Eyal called on the Knesset to strengthen legislation to resolve land disputes in the West Bank in different ways.

Right-wing parliamentarians said they planned to turn to the Knesset and urge it to legislate a solution that would nullify the court decision.

Both MK Danny Danon (Likud) and MK Uri Ariel (National Union) called on lawmakers to approve legislation which would legalize all the outposts, including Migron.

Danon said he planned to ask the Knesset to hold a special session on the matter during the Pesach break.

"There is no reason why Jews should be evacuated from their homes under a Likud government," he said.

"We must make use of the responsibility given to use by the people to lead the nation and the settlements in Judea and Samaria according to the values of Ze'ev Jabotinsky and [former prime minister] Menachem Begin," Danon added.

MK Uri Orbach (HaBayit HaYehudi) said the court's judgment clarified the irrelevance of setting a date for new elections.

"There is no need to advance the elections. We should eliminate them. Any which way it is clear that the judges believe they run the country," he said.

Global Assault on Jerusalem!

On Friday March 30th, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, George Galloway (Saddam Hussein's great apologist) and assorted anti-Semites are uniting to sponsor a universal march on Jerusalem.

Their stated aim is to stop the "Judaizing" of the capital of the Jewish people. They proclaim that defending the city against an (imagined) onslaught by the Zionists. They announce themselves as the protectors of the Palestinian people.

Nowhere in their documents will you find mention that Jerusalem is and has been the capital of only one people -- the Jewish people.

Nowhere will you read that from 1948-1967 the Arabs governing the Old City of Jerusalem refused access to Jews. No where will you read that Jews were killed by Arab armies and driven from their Jerusalem homes.

Nowhere will you read that Arab Christians were denied access to the Old City.

Nor will you read in their propaganda that under Israel's control Jerusalem is a free and open city where all pilgrims are welcome and protected by the State of Israel.

As Jewish Jerusalem is under attack from people who have declared their intention to annihilate the Jewish nation we need to redouble our defense of the (Gods) Holy City.

Video Exposes Ashton’s Gaza-Sderot-Toulouse Comparison

Ashton said her remark comparing deaths in Gaza with the murders in Toulouse was “distorted.” A video shows her reaction was distorted.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said her remark comparing deaths in Gaza with the murders in Toulouse was “distorted” by a news agency, but a video shows her reaction distorted the facts.

After the cold-blooded murder of a rabbi and three young children at a Toulouse Jewish school. Ashton told a conference in Brussels on Arab refugees, “When we remember what happened in Toulouse today, when we remember what happened when I was in Norway last week, a year ago. When we know what's happening in Syria, when we see what's happened in Gaza and Sderot, in different parts of the world, we remember young people and children who lose their lives."

The text version that was released by her office omitted the words “and Sderot,” apparently in order to avoid showing any remorse for the victims of terrorist rockets in the southern Israeli town.

Virtual every major political leader in Israel, including Opposition leader Tzipi Livni, expressed outrage at the comparison between deaths in Gaza, where most of those killed are terrorists or are harbored by them, with the cold-blooded murder in Toulouse.

The omission of the town of Sderot in her office’s official text report apparently served as the basis for what Ashton called a “distortion” of her remarks, which even with the inclusion of Sderot, categorically made a comparison between deaths cause by terrorists and IDF counterterrorist actions with the carefully planned murder of the Jews in Toulouse.

Nevertheless, Ashton told a European Union parliamentary hearing, "I drew no parallel whatsoever between this tragedy and events elsewhere in the Middle East." Her spokesman claimed her words were "grossly distorted” and that “there was no comparison made whatsoever."

Her office did not explain why the text report omitted “and Sderot.”

Police in Gunfight with Suspected ‘Toulouse Monster’

Elite French police are engaged in a gunfight this moment at a four-story building with the suspected Toulouse murderer, who is of Algerian origin and is linked with Al Qaeda.

One police officer suffered serious wounds, and two others were wounded lightly. The suspect is a 24-year-old Muslim who French officials said has travelled to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Police brought his mother to his apartment building, but she said she was unable to convince her son to surrender. The apartment is relatively close to the Otzar HaTorah Jewish day school, where the terrorist shot his vicitms.

The suspect is armed with a high-caliber rifle, and he announced he would not surrender alive. Simultaneously, police searched for and arrested the brother of the suspect, who reportedly was in the house when the raid began.

He told authorities that he and his brother carried out the murders of the three French soldiers in Montauban and of the Jews at the Toulouse day school to protest the deaths of Gaza terrorists and France's involvement with the war on terror in Afghanistan.

French Interior Minister Claude Gueant is at the scene of the raid, which began a few minutes after 4 a.m. Israel time, as the neighborhood was sealed off. He said that the police want to capture the suspect alive so he can stand trial, but other French sources said that police may decide to kill the man and end the operation.

Terror has also hit Paris, where an explosion was heard at a foreign embassy. No injuries were reported.

France is in shock over the serial murders of French soldiers and Rabbi Yonatan Sandler, his two young sons and the little daughter of the principal of the Otzar HaTorah school in Toulouse on Tuesday. Their bodies have been flown to Israel, where they are to be buried in Jerusalem at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy commented, "When you grab a little girl to put a bullet in her head, without leaving her any chance, you are a monster. An anti-Semitic monster, but first of all a monster.’

Ozar HaTorah Victims' Funeral in Israel

Victims in the attack on the Ozar HaTorah Jewish school in Toulouse had a funeral service in Israel. The bodies of Rabbi Jonathan Sandler, his four-year-old son Gabriel, his five-year-old son Arieh, and seven-year-old Miriam Monsonego were laid to rest in a cemetery in Jerusalem.

El Al Israel Airlines brought the victims and families from France to Ben Gurion International Airport overnight, and about 400 people, including French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe and US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, attended the funeral ceremony and listened to eulogies. The assault on the Jewish school is the worst attack against Jews in decades.

Jewish schoolchildren shot dead at a Jewish school in Toulouse France

A father and his two young sons aged six and three were shot dead when a gunman opened fire at a Jewish school in France in an apparently racist attack.

Another child, aged between eight and 10, was also killed outside the Ozar Hatorah college in the south-west city of Toulouse, and a 17-year-old girl left seriously injured.

Police are hunting a “lone wolf” assassin, believed to be linked to two other shootings in the past fortnight that killed three soldiers from black or north African backgrounds.

Witnesses today described how the gunman drove up on a black scooter wearing a black crash helmet as the children gathered at the school gates ahead of the start of classes.

He dismounted and started shooting, hitting the 30-year-old rabbi and his two children. When his first weapon misfired, he produced a second gun and continued firing. “He shot ateverything he had in front of him, children and adults,” prosecutor Michel Valet said. “The children were chased inside the school.”

At least three people were also wounded in the attack, including the 17-year-old daughter of the school’s headmaster, who suffered serious injuries. The school, behind a high white wall with few external markings, was cordoned off by police, who then escorted other children outside. One officer held a distraught girl, her face in her hands. A mother and son were seen walking away from the site, their faces visibly pained. Within an hour, search helicopters could be seen flying over the city hunting for the gunman.

The French interior minister Claude Guéant immediately ordered security to be stepped up at all Jewish schools in France and President Nicolas Sarkozy cancelled his official engagements to fly to the city to visit the school and meet local officials.

He called the shootings “abominable” and a “frightening tragedy”.

The country’s Chief Rabbi, Gilles Bernheim, said news of the attack had left him “shell shocked”. He cancelled his engagements to travel to the school to offer support to teachers and families.

President Nicolas Sarkozy speaks in front of the "Ozar Hatorah" Jewish school, on March 19, 2012 in Toulouse, southwestern France, where four people (three of them children), were killed and two seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire.

Israel led world condemnation of the shooting of three children and a teacher at a Jewish school in France on Monday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling it "despicable murder."

Children aged three, six and 10, and a 30-year-old religious education teacher were shot dead as they arrived for classes at the Ozar Hatorah school in the southern city of Toulouse.

"In France today there was a despicable murder of Jews, including small children," Netanyahu told a meeting of his Likud party.

"It is too early to determine exactly what the background to the murderous act was, but we certainly cannot rule out the option that it was motivated by violent and murderous anti-Semitism."

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman was "deeply shocked" over the incident, a statement from his office said.

"Only a person possessing demonic evil could conduct such a terrible murder of small children at a school," it quoted him as saying, while parliament speaker Reuven Rivlin said the attack was against Jews and Israel and as such should alert the international community.

The dead teacher was named by a relative as Jonathan Sandler, originally from Jerusalem, who had moved to France last year.

The New Israeli Bunker Buster

Israel has developed a new 500 pound (227 kg) penetrator bomb, the MPR-500.

The MPR-500 can smash through more than a meter (39 inches) of concrete or four 200mm (8 inch) concrete barriers (floors or bunker walls) and then detonate. When the MPR-500 explodes it releases 26,000 fragments, which will wound or kill out to 100 meters.

While the MPR-500 is an unguided bomb it is most useful when mated with a guidance kit to become a smart bomb. The most common such kit is the American JDAM, which converts 500, 1,000 (455 kg) and 2,000 (910 kg) pound unguided bombs into highly accurate guided "smart bombs."

Currently, most penetrator bombs are heavier (910 kg) and models like the BLU-109 can penetrate five meters (16 feet) of concrete. The heavier (5,000 pound) GBU-28 can penetrate 32 meters (100 feet) of earth or six meters (20 feet) of concrete. Israel already has hundreds of these larger penetrator bombs but apparently sees a need for smaller penetrators. More of the smaller bombs can be carried on each sortie. There are smaller penetrators as well.

Israel had watched (from the air and via spies on the ground) as the Iranian supported Hezbollah militia built underground bunkers in southern Lebanon over the last twelve years. Hezbollah built many of these bunkers into homes and schools. Others were dug into mountains. While there were a lot of targets that required the GBU-24 and 28, there were many more that could be destroyed with smaller bombs. For some of those Israel has bought thousands of 250 pound (114 kg) American Small Diameter Bombs (SDB), which can penetrate half a meter (20 inches) of rock or concrete and much more packed earth. With the addition of the locally made MPR-500 Israel has a penetrator for every buried target.

IDF to deploy 4th Iron Dome battery within weeks!

IAF colonel says system demonstrating impressive results; Iron Dome has intercepted 39 rockets since start of escalation.

Israel will deploy a fourth battery of the Iron Dome rocket-defense system in the coming weeks, IAF Colonel Tzvika Haimovitch said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters at the location of an Iron Dome battery which is protecting the city of Ashdod, Haimovitch, who served as the commander of the IAF unit responsible for the Iron Dome, said that the system was demonstrating impressive results and "was being stretched to the max."

On Sunday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu visited the Iron Dome battery protecting Ashdod, and was briefed on the performance of the system. The IDF is hoping to secure funding from the government to enable the continued production and delivery of additional Iron Dome batteries and interceptors.

Since the beginning of the violence between Israel and Palestinian terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip, the three Iron Dome batteries deployed in the South have successfully intercepted 39 rockets, including 11 as of 5 p.m. on Sunday.

CDA schoffeert regeerakkoord: Israël de dupe!

nekschot-cartoon.

Canadian Government unmasks BDS anti-Semitism and racism

Canadian Government: "The organizers of Israeli Apartheid Week use the cover of academic freedom to demonize and delegitimize the State of Israel"

Once again, Canada leads the way as a robust and fierce voice for freedom and individual rights in an increasingly dark [and anti-Israël/Jewish] world. How marvelous an example of leadership and morality in the wake of Obama and the left's post-American rout.

Is it any wonder that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu met with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper first, before Obama? Therein lies the present/future leadership of the free world. The world is watching.

This is from a Government of Canada website

"The organizers of Israeli Apartheid Week [f.e. BDS] use the cover of academic freedom to demonize and delegitimize the State of Israel. In reality, this week is nothing more than an unbalanced attempt to paint Israel and her supporters as racist. This week runs contrary to Canadian values of tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding. As Minister for Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I call on all Canadians to reject anti-Semitism and all forms of racism, discrimination and intolerance [of the Israeli Apartheid Week, BDS, etc.], which are unacceptable and completely contrary to Canada’s fundamental values."

What would you do if you were Israël?

"We went away to Ashkelon for Shabbat (the weekend -Fri-Sat). Everything was fine & beautiful, we had a nice Shabbat dinner and we went to sleep early, around 10pm. A little while later, not sure what time it was, I wake to the sound of a shrill siren. See here what is something like I experienced:"

Grad rocket fall next to my house in Ashdod

"Tonight I was under attack. More about that in a minute.

If one opens up the TV news in Israel right now, it is plastered with news-type tickers running across the screen announcing that 100 rockets and missiles have been launched against Israel's southern cities, and that there will be no school tomorrow in Beer Sheva, Ashkelon, and Ashdod. They then show scenes where rockets and missiles have slammed into Israel. Some shots show blood splattered from victims that are now in the hospital.

The headlines all say ' Escalation in South'.

But this is wrong. This is the method of 'divide and conquer' or 'divide and weaken/dull the senses. Because some Israelis, even only an hour's drive away, are not seeing or feeling these attacks. I certainly wasn't until this weekend (as they don't feel the threat of rock and shooting attacks on the roads in YESHA).

We are all going on, life as usual, with only news reports about what others are experiencing, but the rest of us are not feeling that we are ALL under threat. Divide and weaken. "Attacks on YESHA roads" "Missiles on the South" Missiles on the North", etc... And so instead of saying that ISRAEL is under attack, and that a war has been waged against it, the media says that what is happening right now is an 'Escalation in the South', the southern region of Israel."

IDF strikes Gaza terror targets following rocket barrage

Escalation in South Israël: 8 hurt, 1 seriously, by Palestinian rockets; over 40 rockets, mortars fired into South from Gaza; intense attacks follow IAF strike on Gaza that killed PRC chief Qaisi.

The IAF struck two targets in Gaza overnight Friday in response to a number of rocket attacks from the Strip earlier in the day that left at least eight people injured. The IDF Spokesman's Office said that the Air Force recorded direct hits.

Palestinian terrorists fired approximately 40 rockets from Gaza into southern Israel on Friday night after an air strike killed the secretary general of the Popular Resistance Committees, Zuhair Qaisi.

Sheikh Zuhair Qaisi, evil inspirator of the terror-faction PRC, received his deserved direct hit by the IDF-Airforce.

The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) swiftly called for retaliation following the first IAF strike that killed Qaisi, as well as senior PRC member Ahmad Hanini. A third man was also injured in the attack.

Qaisi was one of the planners of the deadly terror attack last August on Route 12 near the Egyptian border, in which eight Israelis were murdered. In 2008, he was involved in a terror attack on a gas depot at Nahal Oz. He was also involved in the carrying out of rocket and mortar attacks on southern Israel, and oversaw the transfer of funds from Hezbollah to terrorist organizations in Gaza. Hanini, in the past, dispatched a suicide bomber into Israel.

Since the initial air strike, the IAF continued operations over Gazan skies to track down rocket launching crews, and struck two cells making final preparations to fire high-trajectory rockets into Israel. One of the terror cells was in central Gaza and the other in northern Gaza. The IDF confirmed hits on its targets.

Purim 2012: Iran's Pre-Genocidal Hate Campaign Against the Jewish People

Iran could destroy the Jewish State in "less than 9 minutes"
-
posted on the Alef website by Iranian analyst Alireza Forghani and appearing on FARS news agency

Today, Jews around the world celebrate Purim where Jews in Persia were saved from annihilation more than 2,400 years ago. Sadly, one of the greatest threats to the Jewish people and the State of Israel today comes from modern-day Persia: Iran, where Supreme Religious Leader Ayatollah Al Khamenei called Israel a “cancerous tumor” that must be removed.

Just this week, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said of Iran, “No greater threat exists to the security of Israel and to the entire region… ,” while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated, “Israel cannot rely on others to defend its people … I will never let my people live in the shadow of annihilation.”

In recent months, international leaders have finally woken up to the danger posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Yet no government or non-governmental organization has tried to take Tehran to the International Criminal Court at the Hague for its state-sponsored, pre-genocidal hate campaign against Israel and the Jewish people.

Just recently the Center helped to expose a detailed blueprint on a website run by the head of the Iranian Parliament’s research center showing:

• a step-by-step plan to wipe out Israel’s infrastructure and annihilate her citizens

• a theological basis for mass murdering Jews

• maps of Israeli population centers

• distances to strategic targets within Israel and the range of Iranian missiles

• specific stages of attacks

• a chilling final stage targeting “urban settlements until final annihilation of Israeli people”

SO PRAY AND FAST (AS MORDECHAI AND ESTHER DID) FOR THE DELIVERANCE AND PROTECTION OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE (ISRAËL) BY GOD FROM THESE EVIL HAMANS OUT OF IRAN! THEN THEY WILL END-UP IN THE SAME MANNER HOW THEY SOUGHT TO DESTROY THE JEWS!

Bidden lijkt mij zeer geboden.

It’s Time to Celebrate Purim

If you’ve ever wondered how involved God really is in the circumstances of your daily life, you need only examine the Old Testament book of Esther.

Although His name is never mentioned, God’s powerful influence is clear throughout this narrative. And it is the story behind the festive Jewish holiday, Purim, celebrated this year on March 8.

Brief Biblical History

An orphaned Jewish girl raised by her cousin Mordecai, Esther grew into a beautiful woman who found love and extraordinary favor with King Ahasuerus. He crowned her queen. Unaware that Queen Esther and her cousin were Jewish, the two gained the king’s great favor when Mordecai successfully revealed a plot to assassinate him. Unfortunately, the king’s love for Esther and (by association) Mordecai fostered seething jealousy and hatred in one of the king’s advisors, a man named Haman.

When an occasion arose that would force Mordecai to bow down to Haman, Mordecai refused. An outraged Haman began to plot Mordecai’s demise. About this same time, Haman also discovered that Mordecai and Esther were Jewish. He resolved to kill both of them, along with all of the Jewish People under Persian rule!

Seen in the picture is the painting of Haman (left), King Ahasuerus, and Queen Esther by Rembrandt.

When Esther learned of Haman’s evil plan, she fasted for three days, along with all of the Jews in the Land, in preparation for her plea to the king to spare her and the lives of her people. In an extraordinary turnaround, Ahasuerus responded positively to Esther’s impassioned supplication, and saved Esther, Mordecai, and all the Jewish People. The evil Haman and his ten sons were hanged on the gallows intended for Mordecai.

How Purim Is Celebrated Today

Purim is treated similarly to a national holiday, like Chanukah. Work is allowed in most places, but the occasion is encouraged to take priority and be celebrated with joy. Jewish mitzvot (good deeds) dictate that Jews observe these four activities during Purim:

K’riat megillah—listening to the readings of the book of Esther in the evening and again the following morning

Mishloach manot—giving food gifts to friends

• Matanot la’evyonim—giving charity to the poor

Se`udah—partaking in a festive meal

Since Purim is meant to be a merry occasion, Jews are actually encouraged to be boisterous when attending readings of the book of Esther in the synagogue. Booing, hissing, stamping of feet and rattling of noisemakers called gragers is customary and welcome.

Traditional Jewish foods are prepared, including the hamentaschen, or “Haman’s pockets”—triangular cookies filled with prunes or poppy seeds said to represent Haman’s three-cornered hat.

Jewish People who celebrate Purim often wear masks and costumes, and perform in various plays, pageants, and masquerades. The colorful costumes lend an added dimension of fun to the jovial theme of the holiday.
