Photo by: AP The Israeli flag was returned to the building of the Israeli embassy in Cairo on Monday, a week after a young Egyptian man climbed up the building and tore it down, instantly becoming a national hero.
In contrast to the flag's previous placement on the roof of the building, on Monday the flag was raised from a balcony on the 20th floor, just below the Egyptian flag.
The Egyptian daily Al-Youm Al-Saba reported that those who passed by the Israeli embassy in Cairo on Monday expressed dissatisfaction at the reappearance of the flag.
This time we shall need the Green Giant and not Spiderman in order to take down the flag again," some said, referring to the nickname the young man, Ahmed Al-Shahat, received after his climb up the embassy building.
Police forces have heightened security of the embassy building before the raising of the flag. According to the Egyptian daily, around 2:30 P.M., one of the Israeli embassy workers opened the window on the 20th floor and after making sure the street is quiet, raised the flag.
An Egyptian military source told the newspaper that the military has nothing to do with raising the flag, and that the matter "only has to do with the embassy workers." He added that the army and the police are only responsible for securing the embassy.
Rocket explodes near Eshkol Regional Council despite Gaza group's proclaimed ceasefire. Radical Islamist terror group Tawhid al-Jihad claims act
A Qassam rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip and exploded in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council on Monday evening. No injuries or damages were reported.
This marks the first rocket fired Monday from the Gaza Strip. It was fired in spite of a ceasefire called by the terror groups – led by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad over the weekend.
The last rocket to be fired from the Gaza Strip was fired at Israel's south on Sunday night. It landed in an open area in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, no one was hurt and no damages were reported. No Color Red alert was sounded before the rocket attack.
Also Sunday, a Grad missile landed in the Bnei Shimon Regional Council not far from Beersheba. Once again, no injuries or damages were reported. The radical Islamist Tawhid al-Jihad terror group took responsibility for the attacks.

De PVV in de Haagse gemeenteraad wil weten waarom er geen aanhoudingen zijn verricht tijdens een anti-Israël demonstratie die op zaterdag 27 augustus werd gehouden op het Plein.
PVV woordvoerder veiligheid Arnoud van Doorn: "Er zijn in het Arabisch o.a. leuzen geroepen zoals "We zullen dansen op de grafstenen van de Joden" en "Alle Joden en zionisten moeten dood en daarvoor zullen we strijden". De politie heeft de demonstratie beëindigd maar er zijn geen aanhoudingen verricht. Wij willen weten waarom niet".
De PVV wil dat degenen die deze leuzen hebben geroepen alsnog strafrechtelijk worden vervolgd. De PVV heeft inmiddels de burgemeester middels onderstaande schriftelijke vragen om opheldering verzocht.
Eight people were injured in a terror attack in southern Tel Aviv on Sunday night.
The attack occurred after an Arab terrorist stole a taxi, ran over a man and lightly injured him, then stabbed several other people at the corner of Abarbanel and Salame Streets in the city.
Magen David Adom reported that one person was stabbed in the head and stomach and was very seriously injured, two people were moderately injured and two others were lightly injured. They were all taken to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. Some have already been released from hospital.
Voice of Israel radio reported that the attack took place near a popular Tel Aviv night club filled with young people, and that the terrorist ran into a police barricade that had been set up in the area, calling out "Allah Akhbar" as he first tried to run over, and then stab the officers at the barricade. First reports said that he refused to heed the officers' calls for him to stop.
The terrorist was lightly injured as police apprehended him and was taken to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon. He was later released from the hospital for questioning in police custody.
Police are investigating the incident, and a preliminary investigation has found that the terrorist is a 25-year-old who came from the Shechem (Nablus)area. It is not yet known if he was sent by a terror group or acted on his own.
He initially made his way to Yafo, where he entered the taxi, stabbed the driver and stole the car. He then made his way towards southern Tel Aviv. It is believed that he intended to carry out the terror attack inside the night club but the police barricade prevented him from doing so.
Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino arrived early Monday morning on the scene of the terror attack and said that the deployment of border police near the night club which was targeted prevented a greater tragedy.
"The incident was further proof of the motivation of terrorists to attack," Danino said, adding: "We will continue our deployment of extra forces, as we have done for the last two weeks."
Israel’s supporters came out in Trafalgar Square today to show sympathy with Israel as rockets continue to rain down from Gaza and to wish a happy 25th birthday to Gilad Schalit who is in his sixth year in isolation in Gaza having been kidnapped by Hamas from Israeli soil when he was 19.
There were some tremendous speeches.
Hasan Afzal, of British Muslims for Israel, said he supports Israel because it is “the only country in the Middle East where Muslims have freedom and democracy”.
Jonathan Sacerdoti spoke movingly about Gilad Schalit spending his 25th birthday “in prison, in Gaza with no contact with the outside world, his family or even the International Red Cross to ensure that his health is adequate”.
Joy Wolfe urged the crowd to ignore media lies about Israel and described Israel as a home for people of all religions.
She went on to call for an end to the double standards of the United Nations and some British MPs and said that Gilad Schalit probably doesn’t even know that today is his birthday and probably feels as if he has been forgotten. But she said that no one will rest until the Red Cross gets access to him and every government in the world is calling for his release.
It was an excellent afternoon arranged at very short notice by the British Israel Coalition and supported by Stand With Us.
It made a change from the previous Sunday’s terror rally at Trafalgar Square where the rhetoric called for war with Israel and signs called for Death to Israel. It’s a shame there wasn’t a similar pro-Israel rally at that time.

On Saturday the 27th of August at 1pm, the Socialist Alliance and "Justice for Palestine" met at Merivale Street, Brisbane to march down to Southbank to bully and intimidate the customers and staff of popular chocolatier 'Max Brenner'.
I, Danielle Keys, organised the counter-protest movement a month ago after seeing the Socialist Alternative at UQ handing out flyers about their protest. The flyers said to boycott Max Brenner as an agent of apartheid Israel. I thought it was so disgusting that I organised a facebook event just to see if some friends were interested in counter-protesting.
Little did I know that in a matter of weeks I would have many different groups approaching me to help support the cause, over 90 facebook friends attending and be in contact with the corporate management of Max Brenner. Little did I truly foresee that I would be speaking to almost every single newspaper I can think of as well as television and radio opportunities. I would have been happy to stand alone but I am really glad I didn't have to! The reason that people stand behind counter-protest movements I think is because as just individual people we get bullied by the disgraceful agendas of the loudest most empty vessels of humanity - the Socialist Alliance. They are the unwashed aggressors who exist off the fringes of society prepared to violently demonise anyone who disagrees with them. I really had enough of it and I'm glad to see I was not the only one!
I guess the only way to properly describe the events of yesterday is like this...
THE COUNTER-PROTEST WAS AWESOME!!!
When the Socialist Alliance marched down to Southbank they were not counting on being outnumbered by ordinary Australians telling them to go home and that their intolerance was not welcome. They quite seriously didn't bank on it and were very upset about it (ha-ha!)....
Anyone who was there would have seen how much fun it was. Everyone there was laughing, chanting, getting stuck into the SA, drinking hot chocolates and dancing around. The Socialist Alliance eventually walked away. Shamed into oblivion. They went and stood in a park somewhere continuing their little rant, where no one could hear them and no one could call them to account. This is unsurprising and indicative of their cowardice.
All fun and exciting times aside, there was a really powerful and beautiful element to this counter-protest movement. I was really humbled and overwhelmed by people from the Jewish community voicing their thanks for the support. It sounds insane but I never really thought of the Brisbane Jewish community when it came to organising this. I was so busy thinking of the political and ideological principles that I didn't properly see how personally vilified and offended the Jewish community felt over this. They came out in force to stand up for Max Brenner and say no to Socialist Alliance abuses. I met so many wonderful Jewish people and I felt so touched when they said how surprised and happy they were to see non-Jewish people standing by them in an event like this.

Reports are coming from Greece that Shariah Law will be abolished with regard to Greek Family Law. These reforms are being met with applause from many people in Greece and around the world. This will mean that in Greek civil courts, Muslims, who are the only state recognized minority, will not be able to use Shariah law to establish the right of polygamy and the inequality of Muslim women to men. The Greek courts will also use Greek laws to regulate the family and hereditary relations of all Greek citizens. By enacting this law the consequences include the elimination of the judicial authority held by the Mufti who will only remain as the religious leader of the Greek Muslims.
In support of anti-Shariah law the National Committee on Human Rights has stated that Shariah Law actually abuses the rights and values of all Greek Muslims rather than protecting them. The Committee has determined that Muslim Shariah law is not compatible with the Greek Constitution as these national laws are equally applicable for both men and women.
The significance of this ban is indicative of the growing awareness public officials have of the failure, not to mention dangers, of multiculturalism in their countries with regard to Muslim non-assimilation. This has led to an impassioned discussion in numbers of countries for the enactment of anti-Shariah laws and regulations regarding illegal immigration and quota systems for legal entry.
De Palestijnse president Mahmoed Abbas heeft de hoge vertegenwoordigster van het Europees buitenlands beleid Catherine Ashton verzocht om de Palestijnen te steunen in hun inspanningen om erkend te worden als onafhankelijke staat en als lidstaat van de Verenigde Naties.
Ashton sprak in Ramallah met Abbas en premier Salam Fayyad over de recente ontwikkelingen in de regio. Prominent op de agenda stonden de Palestijnse plannen om in september bij de Verenigde Naties een verzoek in te dienen tot erkenning van een Palestijnse staat binnen de grenzen van 1967.
Ashton hield de boot af. "Na de recente tragische gebeurtenissen in Israël en Gaza is het belangrijker dan ooit dat beide partijen naar de onderhandelingstafel terugkeren", stelde ze in een persmededeling. "Enkel via onderhandelingen -en niet door geweld- kunnen de oorzaken van het Israëlisch-Palestijnse conflict aangepakt worden".
Volgens de Palestijnse onderhandelaar Saeb Erekat zei Ashton aan Abbas dat de Europese Unie de legitimiteit van het Palestijnse verzoek niet in vraag stelt. Het Europese standpunt zou afhangen van de precieze tekst die de Palestijnen willen indienen bij de VN-veiligheidsraad, zo gaf Erekat de woorden van Ashton weer.
Volgens Abbas zijn de Palestijnen gedwongen de vlucht vooruit te nemen omdat Israël het vredesproces blijft blokkeren en intussen nog steeds nieuwe nederzettingen bouwt op Palestijns gebied. De president houdt naar eigen zeggen evenwel de deur open voor nieuwe onderhandelingen.
