Oranjedienst Portugese Synagoge

Gaza militants launch new rocket attack on civilian targets in south Israel

Did Israeli Jets Bomb a Chemical Weapons Facility in Syria?

The answer as usual is… maybe. The Syrian civil war is unique in the sheer amount of lies, fake stories, videos and photos being put out by both sides. If you assume that a report from either side is a fake, you have a 50 percent chance of being right.

That makes a lot of the reporting useless. And the source for this story may be Maariv, a semi-respectable Israeli tabloid (compared to Yediot), but the original source is the Free Syrian Army which produces propaganda by the ton.
The Free Syrian Army says Israeli air force jets flew over President Bashar Assad’s palace and bombed a chemical weapons site near Damascus, Maariv reported.
The report said the Israeli jets entered Syria’s airspace close to 6 a.m Saturday and flew over Assad’s palace in Damascus and other security facilities before striking a chemical weapons compound near the city.
The Hebrew language daily said a Syrian army air defense battery positioned in the city fired at the Israeli jets that left Syria’s airspace unscathed. FSA rebels posted a video showing smoke rising up from the headquarters for chemical weapons. There were no reports of the extent of damage or casualties.
Neither Damascus or Jerusalem responded to the report.
So if this didn’t happen, why would the Free Syrian Army make it up? Because it makes Assad look weak. The emphasis on the palace overflight is the real point.

Muslim leaders derive their legitimacy from the old Mohammedan metric of being able to fight the infidels. Turkey and its Sunni rebel proxies have spent months taunting Assad for not being able to attack Israel. The reason he can’t attack Israel is because they’re attacking him, but who says that arguments in the Muslim world make any kind of sense.

All that doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. Israel has been sharpening its rhetoric lately and stopping weapons transfers is its top priority. But an FSA report on the subject is worth about as much as any of its propaganda.

Lag B'omer in Meron 2013, etc.!

Koster ontdekt schuilplaats Joden in Rotterdamse kerk

Zeev Elkin: Iran Watching U.S. Response on Syria

The United States’ response to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s use of chemical weapons will send a signal to Iran, Deputy Foreign Minister Zev Elkin said Friday.

If the U.S. does not act to destroy chemical weapons in Syria, it will signal a reluctance to take action in Iran as well, he warned.

“If they don’t act on something they defined as a ‘red line,’ then the Iranians will learn that the red lines the West sets are very flexible, and will continue their nuclear program,” he told IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal).

“If the United States and the international community are able to take action and to take control of the chemical weapons reserves in Syria, the concerns over its use will not be relevant. It could be that as soon as the international community understands that red lines have been crossed, it will realize that there is no choice but to take action,” he continued.

What concerns Israel is not who leads the Syria government, but the question of who controls Syria’s chemical weapons and how to keep them out of use, Elkin added.

“The world is beginning to internalize the fact that chemical weaponry endangers us all,” he said.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said Thursday that American intelligence believes Assad's forces have used chemical weapons. The Syrian opposition has called on the international community to intervene, a call that was backed by U.S. senators.

'Lost tribe of Israel' found in Papua New Guinea?

The scholar known internationally as the "British Indiana Jones" has tracked a tribal people identifying themselves as a Lost Tribe of Israel in a remote corner of Papua New Guinea.

Florida International University religious studies professor Tudor Parfitt recently conducted an expedition to Papua New Guinea, where he studies the Gogodala, a tribe of former cannibals who believe they are one the Lost Tribes, according to a Florida International University press release.

The Gogodala are now hunter-gatherers in western Papua New Guinea with very little connection to the outside world. However, from the very first encounters with western explorers in the 17th century, the idea took root that ancient Israelite communities were to be found in the islands of the Pacific. Australian missionaries later went on to further propagate the idea.

A decade ago, at the request of tribe leaders, Parfitt conducted DNA testing on the Gogodala to see if he could establish any link to the Middle East. The tests were inconclusive. Nonetheless, the Gogodala have continued to embrace Judaism. During his most recent visit, Parfitt was surprised to see how the Jewish practice had developed in the tribe.

"The bedrock of the religious identity of the Gogodala remains in some respects, their traditional belief system, upon which has been grafted Christianity, which was introduced to the tribe in the 1950s by missionaries," Parfitt said. "On top of that has been grafted a kind of Judaism. More and more of the Gogodala wear yarmulkes [kippot] and prayer shawls. They've started celebrating Jewish holidays and they are using more Hebrew."

The idea that the population can trace its roots back to ancient Israel is shared by other tribes. There are those who believe that the whole Papuan population has its roots in the Holy Land.

Parfitt has written 25 books and has been studying Judaizing movements around the world for 30 years. He is best known for his work with the Lemba tribe of Africa, which was shown to have a historic link to Israel. His recent book "Black Jews in Africa and the Americas" records the growth of Israelite movements throughout Africa and elsewhere. His research trip shows that the Gogodala are part of this growing, global Israelite movement.

IDF shoots down drone from Lebanon near Haifa

the downing of a drone that entered Israeli airspace in southern Israel in October 2012.

IDF fighter jets shot down an unmanned aircraft off the coast of Haifa Thursday. According to a military source, the aircraft took off from Lebanon and was apparently sent by Hezbollah.

Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon accused the Iranians of using Hezbollah to test Israel. “We’ll respond where we find fit, but there will be a response,” he said according to press reports.

The incident caused some drama in the skies over northern Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was flying to an event in a Bedouin village. The prime minister’s helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing as jets scrambled to identify and intercept the aircraft at about 2 p.m., Ynet reported.

“I view with utmost gravity this attempt to violate our border. We will continue to do everything necessary to safeguard the security of Israel’s citizens,” Netanyahu said after the incident.

Israeli navy and air force troops were sent to search the area where the aircraft was intercepted in order to prevent possible entry of additional drones and to locate debris which might shed light on the aircraft’s mission.

The plane was identified while still in Lebanon and IDF fighter jets were immediately scrambled to track it, the IDF said. Once it became clear that the drone was not an IDF or civilian aircraft, a decision was made to intercept the drone.

It was shot down by an F-16 fighter jet some five miles off the Haifa coast at 6,000 feet in the air, the IDF said.

Mosques to get Millions for Security, Nothing for Synagogues

mosque Haifa

The Ministry of the Interior will invest an estimated 15 million shekels in protecting mosques and monasteries from vandals, IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal) reports. Currently, there is no plan to provide Jewish holy places with similar protection.

Minister Gidon Saar has reportedly approved funding for extra security, including security cameras, for dozens of Muslim and Christian places of worship. Among the buildings that will be protected are several that were vandalized in the past along with others that have never been vandalized, but are considered at risk due to their location.

Over recent months several mosques and monasteries have been painted with offensive graffiti or otherwise vandalized. The attacks have widely been attributed to Jewish nationalists, although few of the vandals have been identified. The trend to point to Jewish nationalists is sometimes mistaken; in one case, an attack attributed to "price tag" nationalists was later found to have been committed by Arabs.

Sagi Keisler of the Binyamin and Samaria (Shomron) Residents’ Councils asked Tuesday if Saar has any plan to provide similar protection to Jewish places of worship. He noted the recent vandalism in Mitzpeh Yericho, which included the desecration of a Torah scroll, as proof that Jewish sites have been targeted as well.

In recent years synagogues have been targeted in arson attacks in Jerusalem, Ramle and elsewhere as well.

Keisler also suggested putting up security cameras at junctions to prevent rock attacks on motorists, and on farms to help fight the phenomenon of thefts and vandalism targeting Jewish farmers.

“If the Minister of the Interior managed to get a sum of 15 million shekels of taxpayer money from residents of Israel, and Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria, in order to care for Arab property, do we not deserve a similar investment in the protection of our bodies and property?” he asked.

Morsi tells Al Jazeera: expect no improvement in Egyptian relations with Israel

Read about the Lord's coming judgement over an anti-Israel Egypt in: ISAIAH 19

I love these passages:

"In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the Lord of hosts, which he shaketh over it.

And the land of Judah (Israel) shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the Lord of hosts, which he hath determined against it.

In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan (Hebrew), and swear to the Lord of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.

And the Lord (Jesus/Yeshua) shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the Lord (not 'allah') in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the Lord, and perform it."

Israel set to buy new US aircraft & missiles

Israel is set to become the first nation to buy the V-22 Osprey, an U.S.-made military aircraft which combines helicopter maneuverability with airplane speed and range.

The sale, which according to The New York Times will be finalized during the Middle East visit next week by U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, would also supply Israel with new missiles designed to take out an adversary’s air-defense radars.

Israel would also buy new KC-35 refueling tanker planes.

Israel will pay for the supplies with aid money it receives from the United States, according to the report.

The transaction is part of a $10 billion weapons sale to Middle Eastern countries to help them counter any future threat from Iran, the Times reported.

Israel ready to act on Syria weapons, warns Netanyahu at BBC interview

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the BBC that Israel has a right to prevent weapons from falling into the wrong hands in Syria.

He said that if terrorists seized anti-aircraft and chemical weapons they could be "game changers" in the region. There have been growing calls for the international community to arm rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad. But there is increasing concern that Islamist militants could use such weapons to further their own causes.

Israel has said its policy is not to get involved in the Syrian conflict. But in recent months it has retaliated following Syrian fire into Israeli-controlled areas in the Golan Heights.

"The main arms of concern to us are the arms that are already in Syria - these are anti-aircraft weapons, these are chemical weapons and other very, very dangerous weapons that could be game changers," he said.

"They will change the conditions, the balance of power in the Middle East. They could present a terrorist threat on a worldwide scale. It is definitely our interest to defend ourselves, but we also think it is in the interest of other countries."

Asked if Israel would adopt a more aggressive military stance in Syria, Mr Netanyahu said: "We are not aggressive. We don't seek military confrontation, but we are prepared to defend ourselves if the need arises and I think people know that what I say is both measured and serious."

Mr Netanyahu was in London to attend Baroness Thatcher's funeral and also held talks with UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Portugal grants citizenship to descendants of expelled Jews

Portugal has granted citizenship rights to the descendants of Sephardi Portuguese Jews who were expelled from the country more than five centuries ago.

The motion, which was submitted by the Socialist and Center Right parties, was read Thursday in parliament and approved unanimously Friday as an amendment to Portugal’s Law on Nationality.

It allows descendants of Jews who were expelled in the 16th century to become citizens if they “belong to a Sephardic community of Portuguese origin with ties to Portugal,” according to Jose Oulman Carp, president of Portugal's Jewish community, an EJC affiliate.

Applicants must be able to show “Sephardic names.” Another factor is “the language spoken at home” -- a reference which also applies to Ladino. The amendment also says applicants need not reside in Portugal, an exception to the requirement of six years of consecutive residency in Portugal for any applicant for citizenship.

“The next step is the creation of a bureaucratic framework for reviewing applications, which will probably involve the Jewish community of Lisbon and government officials,” said Carp, who has lobbied for several years for the amendment. He called it “a huge development.”

Carp is hoping the measure will help attract new members to the country’s Jewish community of 1,000 to 1,500. “I expect the amendment will attract some interest from members of the Jewish community of Turkey, a country which absorbed many Portuguese immigrants,” he said.

Popular support for the motion stems from a desire to “make amends” for a dark historic chapter in Portugal, a country Carp describes as being “virtually free of anti-Semitism.” Some also hope the law would attract investments by Jews seeking to settle in Portugal, one of the European Union’s most vulnerable economies.

IDF removes security fence of Ofra

Residents of Ofra and Adam have expressed upset over the IDF’s failure to build new security fences for their communities after having removed the old fences to improve Arab access to the area.

Fences around both towns were taken down one month ago after Palestinian Authority resident Arabs claimed ownership of land within the fences.

The PA residents filed a suit to the Supreme Court with help from the far-left Yesh Din organization arguing that the fences had been put up without authorization and prevented them from accessing their land. The court ordered the fences taken down.

A source in Ofra told Arutz Sheva that the removal of the fence has caused a serious threat to security. “The alternate fence is still not up. How can the IDF neglect the residents? The IDF’s job is to protect the Jews, not to give in to the diktats of the extreme left,” he said.

“The Central District commander must put up the alternate security barrier before there is a tragedy,” he added.

Our Comment: THEY HAVE NO RESPECT!

Strange 'prediction' video from march 2013:

Israel capable of attacking Iran on its own, army chief says

Israel’s army is capable of attacking Iran on its own without foreign support, Chief of Staff Benny Gantz told public radio on the 65th anniversary of the Jewish state’s foundation.

Asked in an interview if Israel’s military could wage attacks “alone” – without the support of countries such as the United States – against the Islamic republic, Gantz replied, “Yes, absolutely.”

“We have our plans and forecasts... if the time comes we’ll decide” on whether to take military action against Tehran,” he said.

Gantz’s comments echoed statements earlier this month by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said Israel would “at no stage... abandon our fate into the hands of other countries, even our best friends.”

Israel believes the Islamic republic, which has issued numerous bellicose statements against the Jewish state, is working to achieve military nuclear capabilities. It has not ruled out a military strike to prevent this development.

Most recently last month Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his country would “annihilate” the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa if it comes under attack by the Jewish state.

Iran denies it is developing an atomic bomb and says it needs its nuclear program for peaceful medical and energy purposes.

Israel is widely believed to be the Middle East’s sole nuclear-armed state, albeit undeclared.

We are happy to inform you that the menora has been destroyed.”

IDF remembers every soldier who has fallen defending Israel

With heavy hearts, conscious of our responsibility, we IDF soldiers mourn those who came before us, those who gave their lives to protect ours. We will never forget their sacrifice. The IDF will continue to defend our nation ceaselessly - because it is the only nation we have.

Yom Ha'Zikaron

Yom Hazikaron. Day of Remembrance for Israeli Fallen Soldiers, is Israel's official Memorial Day. The national observance was enacted into law in 1963. While Yom Hazikaron has been traditionally dedicated to fallen soldiers, commemoration has now been extended to civilian victims of the ongoing Palestinian violence.
