Eindelijk is de Israëlische regering het zat. Al jaren leven Israëli’s in het zuiden van Israël in angst voor het ‘rode alarm’... ”er komen raketten aan”.

Daarna hebben ze 15 seconden om naar een schuilkelder of een veilige kamer te vluchten. Al jaren worden en zijn hun kinderen en ook veel ouderen zwaar getraumatiseerd. Iedere regering had dat Gaza-terroristennest al lang uitgeroeid. Iedere beschaafde regering had de Gazastrook al lang bezet, de verantwoordelijke terroristenleiders en hun terroristenknechten gedood of opgepakt en het land uitgezet. Dan zou de situatie tot zegen van goedwillende Palestijnen al snel zijn genormaliseerd. Maar de Islam en veel westelijke leiders willen dat blijkbaar niet. Zij zullen het wel merken. Raketten op Israël betekent ook geweld in onze regio’s. Onlusten en verwarring rond Israël is een voorspel voor onlusten in onze streken. Alles wat daar gebeurt is ook een waarschuwend voorbeeld voor ons. We zien er al iets van gebeuren.

Israël had in augustus 2005 zijn goede wil al getoond. Het leger en zo’n 8.000 burgers zijn uit de Gazastrook teruggetrokken. Joodse mensen die daar een goed bestaan voor zichzelf en voor veel Palestijnen hadden opgebouwd werden opgeofferd voor de hoop op vrede. Wel, het ging snel mis. Twee jaar later verdreef de Hamas hun Palestijnse broeders met wreed geweld uit Gaza. Israël kreeg als loon voor hun goede wil dagelijks regens raketten. Eind 2008/begin 2009 heeft Israël door de Operatie Gegoten Lood een voorlopig einde gemaakt aan die beschietingen. Het enige ‘loon’ voor Israël’s goedwillendheid was protest van de VN en vrijwel de hele wereld. Ook dit zal de hele wereld worden toegerekend. Dus het schieten vanuit Gaza ging verder. Je vraagt je soms af waar die terroristen uit dat “arme Gaza” het geld voor al die peperdure raketten vandaan halen? Wel, eindelijk is Israël het zat.

Een andere reden voor Israël om “Pillar of Defence” te beginnen is de afschrikking. Als Israël zo voorzichtig blijft reageren is dat een signaal voor de moslim terroristen om, juichend vanwege hun overwinningen en dorstend naar Joods bloed, verder te gaan. Een aanmoediging voor Hezbollah en voor de Syrische moslim extremisten, die na met Assad te hebben afgerekend, zich op Israël gaan wreken.

De Bijbel zegt: “Westwaarts zullen zij (Israël) de Filistijnen op de schouders vliegen” (Jesaja 11:14). En: “Het huis van Jakob zal zijn bezittingen weer in bezit nemen” (Obadja 1:17). Zo gaat en en zo zal het gaan. God is bezig zijn volk Israël te herstellen en op hun plaats te brengen. Ook in geestelijke zin. De wereld verzet zich ertegen en zal, helaas, de gevolgen van hun opstand tegen de Almachtige, De God van Israël, ondervinden. En wij, wij hopen dat onze regering, die Rosenthal heeft opgeofferd voor Timmermans, niet tegelijk Israël opoffert en daarmee een stuk zegen van de Almachtige tegenhoudt.

En wij, wij bidden voor Israël en voor een stuk genade voor goedwillende Palestijnen, die er ook nog wel zijn.

Media Gobble Up Hamas’ False Reports

No journalists were wounded in the reported aerial attack on a media center in Gaza, an IDF spokeswoman told Arutz Sheva Sunday morning.

AFP and other foreign media continued to repeat Hamas claims and reported a claim by health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra who was quoted as saying, "At least six journalists were wounded, with minor and moderate injuries, when Israeli warplanes hit the al-Quds TV office in…Gaza City.”

He said that witnesses reported extensive damage to the building and that journalists had evacuated after an initial strike, which was followed by at least two more on the site.

Several Hamas claims already have been proven false in the latest escalation of the missile war against Israel. Hamas staged for foreign media a man supposedly wounded and being hauled away into an ambulance, but the same man was seen minutes later walking on his own, as seen here. The BBC featured both shots and was shown up by HonestReporting.

Hamas reports of deaths and injuries are reported by fawning media although almost never verified, a tactic that Hamas has perfected and used successfully against Israel in the Operation Cast Lead four years ago.

Following the first days of Israel’s counterterrorist maneuvers, highlighted by the killing of Hamas’ military commander-in-chief, Hamas began reverting to its old tactic of reporting that women and children were victims of the counterterrorist campaign. During the Operation Cast Lead, documentation proved that Hamas hauled out pictures of dead children who, it turned out, actually had died from illnesses or accidents unrelated to the war.

Since foreign media coverage in Gaza is severely restricted, reporters depend on Hamas claims without even noting that they could not be verified.

“Medics said 48 Gazans had been killed by early Sunday and more than 450 injured since Israel launched its air campaign on Wednesday,” AFP reported as fact, for example, without bringing Israel's assessment. It continued to refer to Hamas terrorists as “militants.”

Thousands pray for IDF at the Western Wall

Thousands of people gathered at the Western Wall on Sunday just before 4pm for a mass prayer service lead by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar.

The service comprised mainly of the Slihot prayers, traditionally said in the lead up to the High Holy Days, and included special prayers for the safety of Israel’s soldiers fighting in the “Pillar of Defense” operation.

Chief Rabbi Amar was joined by other rabbis including Rabbi David Batzri, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, rabbi of the Western Wall, and Rabbi Zamir Cohen, chairman of the Hidabroot organization.

The chief rabbi called upon Jews to take upon themselves to study more Torah – what he called “Israel’s ultimate weapon” – and in particular to take upon themselves to study a page of the Zohar (Jewish mystical text) every day. He also beseeched the Jewish nation to be particularly mindful of Shabbat observance at this time of war, and to abstain from becoming embroiled in arguments with fellow Jews.

Rachel Gessoff, a US citizen who has yet to make aliya, made the trip to the Wall to join in the prayers. “Being by the Kotel was surreal,” she said. “I felt a sense of unity among my nation, people from all walks of life and from all corners of the world are here with one clear thought and intention: To protect our soldiers and protect our borders, and to keep everyone safe physically and spiritually. It was an honor to see the face of such a holy rabbi [Amar]."

Gessoff said that she was not nervous about being in Israel right now, but the same cannot be said for her family in the US. “My family expressed concern, however they think I’m’ being courageous for staying here. Just to be here, praying in front of such righteous leaders has brought comfort to me. I am confident that Hashem [God] will protect us and that we will defeat our enemies once and for all and be safe in our land.”
