He was caught thanks to intelligence and DNA findings in the Wadi Ara area. Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated the Security Forces and said they “Worked relentlessly, methodically and professionally.”

During last week electronic surveillance located a second cellular phone Melhem had besides the one he left in Tel Aviv, which led searchers to the Wadi Ara area. New Mossad chief: Israel still needs God's help

The Prime MInister's National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen, who on Monday was named as the next head of the Mossad, gave a particularly powerful speech at his synagogue on Saturday, noting how Israel was established with God's help and needs His help today just as much.

Cohen does not himself wear a kippah but is what is known as a "traditional" Jew, meaning he generally observes the mitzvot, and on Shabbat attends his synagogue in Modi'in.

"Without siyata de'shamaya ('Heavenly aid' in Aramaic - ed.) the state of Israel would not have been established," Cohen said in a Biblical exegesis at the synagogue this Shabbat, reports Walla on Saturday night.

"That was true then - and today too, we need siyata de'shamaya."

Cohen grew up in a religious family in Jerusalem and attended Or Etzion Yeshiva in his youth. To this day he maintains contact with the yeshiva's dean, Rabbi Chaim Druckman, who is a leading religious Zionist rabbi.

The synagogue was filled with people who, in addition to taking part in the Shabbat services, wanted to hear Cohen's words.

Israel tests prototype of the ‘AirMule’

from: Israel Homeland Security

The Israeli designed AirMule fan craft UAV has made a first untethered light on December 30th. The flight was made in Megiddo airfield in northern Israel.

Rafi Yoeli, CEO of Tactical Robotics Ltd’s parent company Urban Aeronautics said that the test schedule in Megiddo includes plans for a demonstration of the autonomous AirMule’s cargo delivery capability aswell as a ‘beyond the line of sight’ flight along a path running through an adjacent, forested area.

The AirMule and its ‘Cormorant’ export variant are both compact, unmanned, single engine,VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft. This one-ton aircraft is presently powered by a single, 730 shp TURBOMECA Arriel 1D1 engine.

The production aircraft will use a more powerful ARRIEL 2 variant capable of providing 985 shp at takeoff. Internal lift rotors enable the AirMule to fly inside obstructed terrain where helicopters are unable to operate. It will also be a maritime force multiplier on vessels that are too small for a standard unmanned helicopter. The ‘Cormorant’ variant will carry a 440 Kg useful load to a distance of 300 Kilometers. At closer ranges higher useful loads are possible. The maximum speed of Cormorant will be 100 Knots and it will be able to operate at altitudes of up to 18,000 feet.

Vatican officially Recognizes Palestine

”I (God, the Lord) will bless those who bless you (Israel, the Jewish peopld), but I will curse anyone who curses you; and by you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)

An agreement signed last year making official the Vatican's de facto 2012 recognition of "Palestine," has come into effect, the Holy See said on Saturday.

The Vatican signed its first treaty with the "State of Palestine" last June when it called for moves to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and backed a two-state solution.

"The 'Holy' See and the State of Palestine have notified each other that the procedural requirements for [the accord's] entry into force have been fulfilled," the Vatican said in a statement on Saturday.

The U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution in 2012 recognizing the Palestinian Authority as a nonmember observer state. This was welcomed at the time by the Vatican, which has the same nonmember observer status at the United Nations.

In October 2014, Sweden acknowledged the State of Palestine, a decision that drew condemnation from Israel and led to tense relations between the two countries.

Israel has previously called the Vatican accord a hasty move that could damage prospects for advancing a peace agreement and impact its future diplomatic relations with the Vatican.

IDF fires artillery after bomb explodes on Lebanese border

A large explosive device detonated near an IDF force at the Lebanese border on Monday afternoon, leading the IDF to fire artillery shells at Hezbollah targets in the area.

The explosion targeted two of the IDF's Caterpillar D9 bulldozers. The IDF has not said whether any soldiers were hurt in the attack.

"We fired artillery at Hezbollah targets near the border," an IDF spokesperson said. "It happened near Nahal Sion." The spokesperson denied there was an attempt at kidnapping soldiers, anti-tank fire, or infiltration of terrorists into Israel.

The Lebanese terror organization Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, which they say was committed by the "Samir Kuntar Brigades."

Two killed, nine injured in Tel Aviv shooting

Again a very sad day in Israël

Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a shooting along Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Street.

Magen David Adom paramedics at the scene provided first aid treatment to four seriously injured victims - including two in critical condition - and three in moderate condition, as well as the fatally injured victim, who they were forced to pronounce dead at the scene.

The shooting took place at Dizengoff 122, close to Dizengoff Center Mall, as the area was packed with people. It began at a popular pub, and the attacker reportedly shot at several other institutions as well as at pedestrians walking along the street.

Paramedics reported "difficult scenes," with multiple casualties lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

Contrary to initial reports, the gunman managed to flee the scene on foot. Police are currently in hot pursuit. Witnesses say at least 10 gunshots were heard at the scene, apparently from an assault rifle.

One witness who works at the pub targeted by the gunman said the killer first sat on a nearby bench and waited calmly until the bar filled with people, and then began shooting randomly.
